Time Out! Why Practicing Mindfulness Could be a Game-Changer

If you are anything like me, you’ve spent the last several years planning family activities and vacations around major volleyball tournaments. Serious players never want to miss an opportunity to play- just as I never want to miss an opportunity to watch my player! Lately, I’ve been actively challenging myself to be a more mindful sports parent during the daily grind of juggling responsibilities. It’s easy to get lost in the chaos of schedules, practices, and travel tournaments and miss the whole reason why your daughter or son loves the game. How do I call time-out and take it all in? Perhaps, I’m also more reflective now that it’s almost time for me to let go and allow my high school senior to head off to college to pursue her collegiate volleyball dreams and academic goals.

Infomagic

I stumbled upon this nice infographic  that breaks down mindfulness strategies tailored for busy people. It’s like a playbook for finding moments of peace in the midst of our sideline hustle. I’m a fan of simple techniques for staying present. Honestly– it’s what I struggle with the most in my life right now. It’s another way to focus on being intentional about mental health on those ‘mom on warp speed’ days.

Resonating points for me include focusing on actually sitting down, setting a time limit and noticing what I call the three B’s : Body, Brain and Breath. Think of it as yoga for your mind! (Pin this one and refer to it often!)

It’s all about finding what works for you. I’m not presuming that this is will be your perfect mindfulness method. Whether it’s a five-minute meditation in the car or a walk around the field during your kid’s practice,  small moments can add up to a big impact on our well-being.
